We must admit we love ikat textiles and  first fell in love with this line’s many styles. The blending of two of our favorite things into one product seemed like a dream. Then we found out more about this super cool company.

Based in Seattle, Basik 855 opened the Push Pull Cambodia Weaving Center in 2009 to stimulate a renaissance of Cambodian ikat craftwork so that the people of Takeo Province can make a better living-one rooted in their own customs. Additionally, they donate a percentage of each sale towards cleaner, safer  water for their artists. We feel good working with this small business.

What is ikat you ask? The team behind Basik 855 has  told us that it is a type of weaving in which the yarns are tie-dyed before weaving begins. This creates a graphic pattern or design on the finished fabric, and is a laborious process with five main steps: setting up the loom, spinning, tying, dyeing, and weaving.

Meet the designers!
Colin Kippen designs unusual, beautiful rings for men and women. These rings are textural marvels in gold, platinum, and silver (Colin calls them geologic). And, this designer enjoys working with clients to create the perfect ring for individual tastes.

Hilary Alexander (of jewelry line Lumafina) makes beautiful women’s rings using Herkimer diamonds and bands of silver or gold. Her offerings are unique, precious, and just for you.

Sahlia Jewelry Design creates what we think is the most gorgeous, drapey, edgy jewelry with a focus on special occasions like weddings. Her jewelry selections are truly the perfect accessories for both the bride and the wedding party ladies.

Our favorite floral shop – By the Bunch Flowers – is known for their unusual wedding arrangements. They’ll be on hand with sample bouquets and tons of pictures of possibilities for you to peruse.

Kevin from The Portland Bottle Shop will be pouring bubbly for us, and will be ready to assist you in choosing the perfect wine for your special day.

The original handcrafted leather goods of Portland designer Nicole Cipriano have become a fast favorite for everyone who visits the shop.  With this new order into Tilde, Nicole has made a brand new handbag for many needs – beautiful (of course) with an adjustable strap and a darn cool toggle closure. And, just the right size for work or weekend.

Nicole has also stocked us with more leather cuffs, wallets, key fobs, and the beloved zip bags with a mirror inside.

We just received a selection of  brand new, and oh so beautiful prints from local artist Cathy McMurray. The prints are from her original artwork, primarily paintings on wood panels that channel gorgeous naturescapes of mountains, oceans, trees, and other lovely features of the Oregon landscape.

Colorful, and a bit mystical, these prints sum up our feelings about the amazing place we call home.

Michele graduated from Portland State University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in drawing, painting, and printmaking, her main focus. In addition to printmaking, she currently works in several different mediums including painting, collage, and illustration. If you asked her which one she prefers, she just wouldn’t be able to choose!

“In the past my work has focused on object that I find mundane, but in the end tells a story. These objects mostly include chairs and typewriters as well as clocks and cameras. I enjoyed finding art in things that are often over looked and passed over.”At the end of 2012, Michele gravitated towards drawing and painting animals. She enjoys concocting stories about how we interact with wild and domestic animals in our environment, and how our lives impact their lives – particularly how their adaptation connects to our destruction, and the sad loss that occurs when they simply cannot adapt. She pays homage to such creatures through her latest series.

Michele’s process in creating the series showcased at Tilde was a “joy to make.” The artist’s hope is that her love and appreciation for each animal is conveyed in each portrait, and that viewers pay close attention to how their lives may directly, or indirectly, impact the lives of animals.

We recently fell hard for the handmade belts from the trio behind Bauxo. Jeneen Gacek, Diana DeLuca, and their friend Javanese friend Hariyono blend their professional backgrounds, cultures, and characters together and to form Bauxo (going ten years strong!). Double wrap belts are so versatile – they can be worn at the waist or hips – and the metal buckles make each belt stand out from the ordinary.

Bauxo is  devoted to creating distinct, versatile pieces from durable materials that develop character with wear. It’s important to them that they contribute meaningfully to the Indonesian community by providing opportunities, excellent working conditions, fair wages, and education so Hari does the designing and all products are made by hand in Indonesia.
