Chewing the Cud
If unwrapping the present is half the fun, you’ll love the re-usable fabric gift wrap from the ladies at Chewing the Cud. We’ve carried their ingenious fabric wraps in the past, and they’re back just in time for the holidays.
Inspired by the traditional art of Japanese gift wrapping to advocate that your gift presentation should be as meaningful as your gift, each print is hand-printed on 100% organic cotton with soy-based inks. There are so many inventive ways to use this wrap–wrap boxes, bottles, book, jewelry, more. Whatever you wrap, this is your fabric. Your BFF receives a beautiful gift and presentation, and she can re-use it or wear it as a pretty scarf.

This is another awesome product that allows us to reuse and recycle. It’s so easy to include a wrapping ‘how-to’ card in your gift and those that receive gifts from you can re-wrap their next gift and keep the pretty fabric gift wrap going. We’re thinking this is the only way to adorn your gifts this holiday! Wrap it up with Chewing the Cud fabrics!

Chewing the Cud
Chewing the Cud is a creative paper and textile-based design studio out of San Francisco. They celebrate things unique, often bold and dramatic, other times soft as a whisper, and sometimes playful like a hint of spice. The end result is always a kaleidoscope of inspired possibilities, exactly how the creatives at this studio view their world. “Chewing the Cud defines that moment of meditation before taking a calculated leap. For the most part, we remember to bring our wings.”
Key designer Viola has a varied path that led her to adventures geared for creativity. With a degree in business and a background in banking she somehow ended up at California College of the Arts focused on fashion. Her natural sense of play, adventurous spirit, and curiosity keeps her mind open, an element Viola deems “crucial to self-growth.” This sensibility lives on through her endeavor, Chewing the Cud.
We fell in love with their new fabric buckets printed on recycled canvas cotton using soy-based inks. In sizes large and small, the storage and display potential is endless.

National Stationery Show 2011
Just returned from the National Stationery Show in rainy New York City. Yes, while all of you were enjoying the rare sun in Portland, I traveled (voluntarily) to the land of pouring rain. Who noticed the rain when roaming a show that was full of great new designs and creative ideas that made for the perfect trip of discovery for Tilde. Ran into old friends, met a slew of new ones and happily report that you’ll soon see some of these great designs within the walls of Tilde.
Chewing the Cud is now making these adorable canvas storage buckets in sizes big and small. Perfect to corral toys, knitting, shoes, fruit. . oh so many things. These handy organizers will be in Tilde in a few weeks.
Two Trick Pony has a Font Calendar (!) in the works for 2012. Yes! This is on our MUST ORDER list for November. Love.

Pistachio Press is turning out these crafty cool car & needlepoint cards, all in letterpress format on lovely paper. PLUS, they will also have a letterpress needlepoint calendar at year end that we were crazy about.
Always excited to see someone from Portland! Jill Bliss was fighting them off in her colorful booth chalk full of her super cool designs. Jill will be showing her original artwork with us as a feature artist in October. PLUS we discovered she has a beautiful calendar in the works. We went looking for calendars and found them in all around this year at the show. . .
One of our favorite booths was that of Geraldo and Craig of Urubbu. Tilde fans know we are big Urubbu followers. We lucked out to get some of their great new cards and prints into the shop right before the Stationery Show opened. The little birds are handcarved and painted from reclaimed wood in Brazil. Look for our upcoming post solely on these gentlemen behind Urubbu.

We loved the crafty folk designs of Katharine Watson. She is carving linoleum blocks to create her prints. The cards we ordered from Katharine are printed and then sewn onto super thick paper. Her little zippy bags are printed, handsewn and lined with contrasting prints. Who doesn’t love a good zippy bag?!

Briefly wandered into Surtex ( a separate though adjacent show) to say hello to Jessica Swift. Her prints always make us happy. We’ve carried her work for at least 3 years now and always look forward to seeing what is new. The Blomma collection (above) feature patterns we’d love to see on fabric so we could sew up the perfect summer dress (or bribe a friend to do so for us!).

And the final pic of this post is of our friend Leah Duncan. We’ve carried her cards for years and recently started bringing in her pillows and tea towels. She was also really busy, which was great to see!
All in all, a super trip. We were able to work a little fun into this NY jaunt as well. Saw a few museums, a Broadway show and had a good time in the big city!
