Cookoorikoo jewelry
These fun, bright, fabric necklaces are just the accessory you need to add a bit of sunshine to your fall outfits. Fun, whimsical, pieces that splash color all around!
Shanalee Hampton may have made her first YoYo when she was a small child but she officially started her biz, Cookoorikoo, in 2006. The special YoYos she now shares with others via jewelry are a circle of fabric sewn and gathered into a rosette. Used in quilt making for hundreds of years, Shanalee has refashioned this traditional craft item with a modern spin for today.
We are thrilled to see this inventive artist setting up shop in Portland. Her pretty necklaces are going fast, stop by the shop today to grab your favorite color combo!

Gary Hirsch robots
We are stoked that Gary Hirsch, local artist (and nationally reknowned), has placed his very cool robots within the walls of Tilde. Each bot is a hand painted, signed, and numbered, one-of-a-kind objet d’art. Truly!
These bots are programmed for amazing feats of strength – providing you with outrageous compliments, helping you be brave, taking all of the blame, and even cloning yourself so you can accomplish more throughout your busy day.

Why not carry a whimsical, joyful bot around or display thousands on your wall? Gary’s goal is to get as many out into the world as possible, and, we know once you experience these little guys, you’ll want to be part of the cause, too.
So, what’s behind the bots? In 1971, a seven year-old boy growing up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio was having nightmares. Your basic, run-of-the-mill nightmares with giant hands swooping down from the attic, grabbing him out of his bed, to swallow him whole where he would land in a stomach that was really a graveyard populated by zombies. Those kind of nightmares. On these nights, the boy’s dad would crawl out of bed throw on a robe and sit next to the boy with a pen and paper. ‘You want to show me what you’re afraid of?’ he would ask. They would stay up for hours. The boy would draw these creatures and the dad would help him name them. And, they collected hundreds – Swamp Creature, Red Zombie, Giant Hand, to name just a few. After awhile, the nightmares would come a bit less frequently. When asked about this, the boy’s dad said, ‘If you can create them, then you can also erase them.’
Fun fact: Gary’s bots were recently chosen to be placed in the Emmy award bags and we were just told they will be placed within the Golden Globe bags as well!

Jill Bliss art reception Friday night!
We feel we are within a bird sanctuary! Jill Bliss has brought in all her artwork for her October show opening tomorrow night. Her bird collages are super spectacular and truly a mixed media delight. The show is a combination of painting and the re-use of paper from other work she has created blended together atop a colorful piece of wood that is edged with graphic washi tape to wrap it all up! Her handmade fabric leaf and feather garlands surround the bird art and really make our shop feel like a private hideaway.
Hope you can join us tomorrow night, October 7th, from 6-9pm to meet Jill and check out her newest original artwork. The show will be on our walls until October 31st and is available online too!

October feature artist preview: Jill Bliss
As we move into fall, the artwork of Jill Bliss will grace our walls for her mixed media show titled Arbors and Avians. Fanciful renditions of common Pacific Northwest birds colorfully explore and celebrate. The artist’s visual vocabulary is expanded, too, as she incorporates collage and paint in these works alongside her usual precise ink lines.
We hope you can join us for a reception to meet Jill on Friday, October 7th from 6:00-9:00pm. Her artwork will be on wall until October 31st.
A veritable Jill-of-all-trades, Jill Bliss and her artwork defy easy categorization. She is an imaginative illustrator and capable and conscientious designer who works with eco-friendly materials and local businesses. She draws, paints, creates murals, and executes custom art and design commissions. And, her signature style is recognizable in fine retail establishments across town.
Jill’s creative output finds its inspiration in the intricate details of the natural world that include artistic representation of plants, trees, animals, tide pools and forests, as well as in urban architectural forms. Her deceptively simple, nature-inspired style stems from growing up in a do-it-yourself household surrounded by nature in Northern California, refined further via art school stints on both coasts, New York and San Francisco. Jill now calls Portland home, and Portland is happy to have her!

September feature artist preview: Sayuri Sasaki Hemann
We are very excited for the upcoming art installation & show of Sayuri Sasaki Hemann. The show – Dreaming of Life Undersea – will take over our south window, many of our walls and certainly our spirits as we soon will realize we do not need a beach vacation after all . . . we can just stay in our shop and enjoy the view!
We hope you can join us for a reception to meet Sayuri on Friday, September 2nd from 6:00-9:00pm. Her artwork will be on wall until September 30th.

Dreaming of Life Undersea is a recurring theme for the artist, as she is “mesmerized by the unknown and ever-changing nature of sea life”, a life she often dreams about. For the Tilde show, Sayuri creates an experience of walking into life undersea when viewers enter the shop. This unique “underwater installation” will showcase pieces using hand- and machine-sewn organza and tulle to create a school of jellyfish and other sea creatures. Hanging on Tilde’s walls, viewers will find encaustic paintings on wood and plexiglass, paintings that are windows into the sea creatures’ lives. This installation will provide a colorful environment to spark discourse about the gap between the expected and unexpected.

Sayuri is a multi-disciplinary artist inspired by the way light reflects on the vivid colors found in nature, threads and fibers of her work, and the everchanging underwater life of sea creatures. Her use of medium ranges from painting with encaustics on plexiglass to hand-stitching soft fabric hanging sculptures to felting colorful creatures. In each medium, she enjoys the process of experimentation and reacting to the unexpected, and it is these interests that reflect her approach to life: enjoying the overall adventure and reacting to what comes and goes.
Sayuri Sasaki Hemann has been an artist ever since she remembers. Her childhood experience with her family’s relocation between and within Japan, Australia, and Romania forced her to function back and forth between languages—and also enabled her to find refuge in creating art. After attending college in Portland, Oregon, she continued to study art academically with a focus on drawing. Sayuri relocated again to Osaka, Japan where she joined a TV station art department, working on creating sets and props for three years. Realizing that creating disposable art for TV shows is not her passion, she relocated once again to Portland in March 2008. She now spends her time making art and working for a vintage textile design archive that houses 26,000 pieces of textiles and artwork collected from all over the world.
★ Please join us for Sayuri Sasaki Hemann’s Artist Reception on Friday, September 2nd from 6-9pm.

Kiersten Crowley jewelry
Portland’s Kiersten Crowley creates elegant, organic jewelry and has released a slew of new styles and designs that are totally gorgeous. Her creations include intricate jewelry fashioned from silver and brass and feature sculptural elements and natural stones. All pieces are handcrafted with unique, modern flair.
Kiersten is primarily a self-taught metal smith who has evolved into one of the best jewelry designers in our area (in our humble estimation!). We love that with her fine designs, she pays close attention to details like texture and contrast. We know that you’ll love these details, too, especially when you’re sporting her new designs this fall. Find many of Kiersten’s new, unique designs in our shop now. (Right this very minute now!)

August feature artist preview: Lisa Kaser
We have long been looking forward to this upcoming First Friday reception for the Portland artist Lisa Kaser from 6pm to 9pm on Friday, August 5th.
Kaser is a favorite at Tilde, and in Portland, and this summer show will present her recent small-scale sculptural work in mixed media. “Flyers, thinkers, gazers, peekers, floaters, seekers, and those taking a moment to enjoy the moment” are the starring characters from her newest creations. Each creature is made from found and fabricated materials like oak gauls (balls) and carved wood, restitched and recycled cloth, handmade wool felt, and natural beeswax. Finer elements are used for features on these unique characters such as tiny shells and shell pieces for teeth. All are mounted atop traditional wooden sake cups.

Full-time artist Kaser was born and raised in Portland and continues to enjoy living and working in the Emerald City where the nearly ever-present rain awakens her creative channels. (Rarely is there a moment when her imagination isn’t firing on all cylinders!) She received formal training and a degree in off-loom textiles at University of Oregon in 1984, and continued to expand upon her interests in illustration, painting, and three-dimensional work that capitalize on the use of mixed materials. She is currently engaged in illustrating her second children’s book, The Mice’s Wedding, for the Spanish Publisher OQO Editora.
This sculpture show runs through Tuesday, August 30th. Come meet the artist and the main creatures of her latest fanciful collection!
★ Please join us for Lisa Kaser’s Artist Reception on Friday, August 5th from 6-9pm.
