Holiday Ribbon Window Display!
Our newest windows are up and bright for the winter holiday season. The amazing Joanna created giant, hanging, pillar lights out of woven ribbon. On the ground she wrapped a bunch of big boxes in the same satin ribbon to allow us to show you many of gifts inside the shop. We are ready for the season!

ryan berkley art show: showing until november 30th
Ryan Berkley – “Sophisticated Menagerie: The Oregon Collection”. This very popular show is showing on our walls through November 30th, so you still have time to see, and purchase, Ryan’s delightful artwork. Included in this show are a number of new original works for the “Sophisticated Menagerie”, created with markers and colored pencil. The Berkley’s have also chosen a select group of archival prints of other Oregon favorites. (You might just recognize a few of the characters from your own backyard.)
His work has been described as “Norman Rockwell meets Richard Scarry” (which he found flattering enough to repeat!). Ryan’s animal portraits, coupled with Lucy Berkley’s animal bios, made a splash in April 2006 at the first Portland Crafty Wonderland art and craft show. That show’s “ancestor theme” for the Berkley booth was inspired by the couple’s love of animals and old-timey portraiture. The ancestor animals did so well at that first show that they’ve continued to evolve and multiply ever since. Berkley Illustration has lived on Etsy since 2007.

Preview: Ryan Berkley Art Show
Ryan Berkley – “Sophisticated Menagerie: The Oregon Collection”
Perhaps best known for his “Animals in Suits” series, Ryan likes to tackle surreal subject matter in a very friendly way. His highly detailed drawings and prints are perfect for your walls or family photo albums.
His work has been described as “Norman Rockwell meets Richard Scarry” (which he found flattering enough to repeat!). The “Sophisticated Menagerie: The Oregon Collection” features animals found in Oregon. Ryan loves illustration projects of all sorts, and has done work for clients including Nike, The Discovery Channel, Urban Outfitters, Land of Nod, Patagonia, Audubon Magazine, and various bands. His work has been featured in magazines (including Real Simple, Country Living, and Uppercase), books, and gallery shows across the land. He lives and works in Portland, Oregon with his wife, Lucy (storywriter/customer services/computery person behind the scenes), and their new baby girl, Ramona.

6 year anniversary celebration & sale!
Fact: It’s been six years since Tilde first opened our doors! That’s six years of discovering those creatives who design amazing handbags, jewelry, and wallets. Six years of happening upon the most perfect ceramics, candles, and cards. Six years of working with artists we completely love to showcase in our ever-changing art shows. Julianna Swaney: art reception Friday night!
We hope you can join us this Friday, April 6th from 6-9pm for the opening reception for the newest artwork of Julianna Swaney of Portland, OR. This show features her original pencil and watercolor pieces centered around themes of guides, guardians and caretakers. All artwork is available for purchase both in our shop and our online website. The show runs through May 31st.
Julianna Swaney was born in Michigan and grew up playing outside in the woods with her dogs and cats, going on family vacations to historical sites and bird watching, and visiting antique stores, all of which continue to be an influence on her work. Because books were always very important in her house, she developed an early fondness for fairytales and magic that could be found in the real world via nature and history. Motivated to create, Swaney received her BFA from Maine College of Art in 2005, and since then has shown her work in galleries around the country. Her illustrations appear in several magazines, including Martha Stewart Weddings, Uppercase, and Tin House, as well as in a recent book. This inspired Portland, Oregon transplant continues to make a living from her artwork.
Fairytales and folktales let people like Swaney understand a universe that could be confusing and frightening, but is also beautiful and mysterious. As a child, she believed that everything—animals, trees, rocks—had a voice, and that if we just listen closely, these beings can serve as sage guides. Swaney lets us access her guides through her artwork, connecting us to a human element that is essential to our understanding of the non-human world. In her paintings, facts intermingle with traces of lingering echoes of childhood memories, of folklore, and of fairy tales.

PREVIEW: Julianna Swaney art show
The walls of our shop changes in a mere week to feature the artwork of Julianna Swaney. Hope you can join us for her opening reception Friday, April 6th from 6-9:00pm. Her work will be on our walls until May 31st. This show features pencil drawings and watercolors that connect with the themes of guides, guardians, and caretakers. Viewers will be delighted by scenes of people nurturing plants, girls being protected by huge dogs, and a few tricksters who may or may not be helpful to children lost in the woods. These images represent further exploration of the artist’s interest in plants and animals, the folklore we’ve created around them, and our deep connection to them.
