QuarterTwenty

We instantly fell in love with this bottle opener, the Knucklehead, cause we like its rugged functionality, and know you will, too.

Yet another terrific Portland design group, Quartertwenty is led by Matthew Bietz and creates projects spanning furniture, installations, and buildings, exploring relationships between design, art, and production in their keen designs.

One of their smallest creations to date, the Knucklehead is the third product they have made from a single piece of steel used to create their GiddyUp stool. Its shelf slot is cut from the stool, resulting in a strip of steel that becomes a minimalist yet muscular bottle opener.

A perfect example of the reuse, recycle, reuse again model that we love. And, a totally perfect, handy gift for those holiday parties.

Poketo “art for your everyday”

Poketo is committed to bringing sophisticated art and design off the walls and into daily life. With a perfect blend of creative design sense and every day functionality, the dynamic design duo behind Poketo quickly went from whipping up unique vinyl wallets to creating a lifestyle brand that spans housewares, messenger bags, water bottles, and more all while retaining its hip indie vibe.

Founded by husband-and-wife team Ted Vadakan and poketo clutchesAngie Myung, Poketo (pronounced poh-KEH-toe) got its name through Angie’s grandmother’s mispronunciation of “pocket.”  We fell in serious love with their upcycled leather wallets and clutches when we saw them in person a few months ago. Minimalist in style, they are made from 100% vintage sofas. All are one of a kind in solid colors, and all are super soft from the long life the leather has already led. Functional, cool, perfect.

Mosey handbags

The stellar Mosey handbag line is designed right here in Portland, Oregon and we’ve been admiring the style and functionality of these bags for the last year. After discovering more about how they are made, we are sold–and think you will be, too!

Mosey’s commitment and attention to using environmentally friendly products–from their fabrications (recycled water bottles, cleanly processed leathers, nickel, lead-free metal details), hang tags (recycled paper, non-toxic inks), and all details of their manufacturing process (factories checked weekly to ensure they are in line with their extensive Social Responsibility Compliance program)–are at such admirable levels that even if the bags didn’t look super cool, you’d still want to be sporting one on your arm!

BUT, as you can see here, their bags ARE super cool and we’ll soon carry plenty of styles including smaller bags (much requested), an awesome crossbody everyday bag,

a shoulder bag that converts to a backpack,

and a laptop/carry-on/handbag.

The Mosey design process is collaborative as the team strives to create a collection that is beautiful, unique, and relevant to the way their customer really lives.

Figs & Ginger

Welcome to a new selection of Figs & Ginger classic jewelry items – in store today! Made from 50% to 100% recycled sterling silver, this unqiue jewelry has a dark patina, and requires no polishing.

Figs & Ginger got their start in the indie craft scene in 2003 when they sold through their temporary brick-n-mortar shop, Share An Umbrella. The design duo then decided to focus on their own work and start silver smithing away. Figs officially began selling in December of 2006.

Who is Figs? Elijah and Rhonda Wyman have been working together on their art and music since their marriage back in 2004, the same year Rhonda graduated Rhode Island School of Design. There are not many tasks the two don’t share, though Rhonda focuses on crafting the technical jewelry parts while Elijah focuses on sales.

The two love to travel with their rescued pup Crash-dog, and cuddle with their cat Puppy who has no tail. You may have seen Elijah traveling Rhonda-free to house shows, festivals, and random venues, or heard him on your local college radio station.

At any rate, we *heart* Figs & Ginger designs and want to share these unique and sustainable silver treasures with you.

Eco-conscious Urban Junket tote bags

We are quite excited to have found a new handbag line that is uber-convertible, ultra eco-conscious, and totally stylish to boot! Tracy Dyer is the brains behind Urban Junket bags and wanted to create a functional handbag,  made from durable materials and designed with efficiency in mind to allow you to stay “organized while protecting your treasures during the daily journeys that define your life.”

She created the T.O.T.E. (To Observe The Earth) collection made from 70% recycled materials. 100% cotton canvas and an eco-friendly dying process is used to create the rich colors of the bags exterior. We love that RPET fabric is used for all of their lining material. RPET is made from recycled plastic bottles that undergo high temperature washing and sterilization before being made into thread which is then dyed using non-toxic vegetable dyes.

Yes, these bags are eco-awesome, but they also look cool and have a ton of functional/organizational pockets inside to meet your needs as you jet about your busy day. You can use the hip blue snaps to change the bag from a work tote to a shoulder bag to a boxy handbag, depending on your mood and need.  T.O.T.E. bags even comes with an additional cross-body strap so you can really make tracks without fear of dropping your stuff.

Urban Junket’s mantra is to “combine inspired and unique styling with everyday functionality. We know it can be done and we don’t believe that anyone should have to sacrifice one for the other.” We totally agree.

Not to boost your expectations, but stop by Tilde to see some Urban Junket bags up-close-and-personal-like. We have them in a ton of colors. Betcha won’t want to leave without one!

AntiGenre: Lauren Markley Jewelry

One of our newest jewelry lines – AntiGenre – has quickly become a favorite of jewelry shoppers looking for modern, contemporary handmade jewelry. We’ve recently discovered many jewelry designers who are venturing into the use of recycled metals to create gorgeous necklaces, earrings, and other adornments. The designer of AntiGenre is one of the pioneers of this craft.

Lauren Markley is a native of Kansas currently living in South Carolina. Despite having developed an interest in art and design at an early age, she only recently began studying metalsmithing. After nearly a decade of moving back and forth between Canada and Japan, and pursuing a variety of careers, she returned to the US in 2004 and began looking for outlets for her creative instincts. What began as a hobby is now a full-time profession.

Founder and designer Lauren Markley uses a keen recycled materials sensibility to communicate difference styles and designs through her jewelry line. Darker metals and treatments reign here through amorphous shapes. Silk cords in bold colors highlight exactly where a splash of energy is needed. We love, you love these industrially sleek pieces that are flying right out the door!

bright designlab on design*sponge!

Congratulations to the lovely ladies of bright designlab, who were featured on the ever so popular blog: design*sponge. You might not recognize their faces, (aren’t they the cutest!)  but if you have been in the shop recently, you’ve probably noticed their whimsical and expertly constructed terrariums.

These ladies are hard at work on a whole slew of projects,  one of which is a line of up-cycled furniture that they designed with local re-modeling company Hammer and Hand. Did you see them at the Mississippi Street Fair? I opted for a trip to the beach that weekend, but I hear it was a great event! Its so nice to see talented designers get the recognition they deserve. Bravo!

Wild Pulp

One of the standouts from the National Stationery Show was the paper line Wild Pulp from Cleveland, OH. Once back from our NY stationery spree, we immediately placed an order for these creative cards and are happy to report that they are now available at Tilde.

Wild Pulp is the newly conceived brainchild of Christopher Smith who is an alum of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Columbus College of Art and Design.  Though it was hard to choose, our favorite Wild Pulp line (at this moment) is the North American Mammals in bark.

Christopher has designed real animals, for Wild Pulp, there are no cutsy humanized creatures in this bunch. The different types of bark that Christopher has chosen truly fits each animal’s spirit.

Ok, this little meadow mouse is pretty cute!

Christopher has also designed a separate collection (called Bright Souls) of vulnerable, threatened, endangered and recovered North American Animals. These stately animals are represented quite colorfully on the front of the card with the back of each card showing the animals habitat along with a bit of info on their lives.

These are such high quality, beautiful and thoughtful cards, we hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
