Jeni Lee's "Valleyscapes"

Posted by Debbe Hamada on

Join us Sunday, June 9th from 2 - 4:00pm for the opening reception of local artist Jeni Lee's show Valleyscapes: Paintings Celebrating the Willamette Valley.

"I work primarily from memory and imagination, allowing the experience and sensations of nature to emerge as I paint. With washes and glazes of paint and water, I continually build and alter the painting, carving out forms and layering light to evoke mood and atmosphere.
The Willamette Valley, with its dramatic skies and endless folds of earth and water, has always been a strong influence on my work, especially in the spring, when the fresh color and light of the season inspires much growth and possibility."

Portland, Oregon artist Jeni Lee is known for her atmospheric paintings of the lush Northwest landscape. Each eartwork is created with layers of acrylic paint, rain and collected, recycled rainwater. This process of engaging with the rain invites unique works through chance and timing, each with patterns and reflections of color and light.

We look forward to seeing you at the opening reception on June 9th or come visit us anytime at the store, Jeni's work will be up on our walls until July 25th.

Jeni Lee Opening Reception "Home"

Posted by Stephanie Yoo on

Join us Sunday, September 8th for an opening reception! Jeni Lee's show "Home" features new work from the artist and new limited archival prints. Meet the artist and grab some refreshments and snacks!

Portland, Oregon artist Jeni Lee is known for her atmospheric paintings of the lush Northwest landscape. On a rainy afternoon in her art studio, she found herself taking the paintings outdoors, into and under the falling rain, using the rain water to layer and alter the paint. This process of engaging with the rain showers, invites unique works through chance and timing, each with patterns and reflections of color and light.

Each artwork is created with layers of acrylic paint, rain and collected recycled rainwater.

"From first traveling through the Columbia River Gorge at age 17 with my family, in search of a new home just like the early pioneers, to finding my deeper grounding and creative connection to the coast, to recognizing the daily joy that the forests, the birds, the rivers of the northwest brings, these new rain paintings evoke experiences that I have collected over the years, places that resonate, inspire and wonder."

Marcy Baker Printmaker - Meet the Artist!

Posted by Stephanie Yoo on

Join us Sunday April 8th from 1-3 PM and meet prolific Portland printmaker Marcy Baker.

"Collage requires an intuitive process of pulling apart, layering, composing and piecing back together. My work explores this organic tension through play with pattern, line and color, uncovering unexpected relationships and the balance between seemingly disparate elements."

Jeni Lee Rain Paintings Reception + Show

Posted by Debbe Hamada on

Art Reception: Sunday, July 16th 2-4pm.
Meet the artist, sip some wine, ponder how great these paintings would look in your home!
Show runs July 16th - August 31st

We are happy to host a show of Jeni Lee's original rain paintings. We've featured Jeni's paintings on our walls for the last few years, and this show will introduce new work from the same series. If you haven't seen Jeni's gorgeous, atmospheric paintings yet - this is a can't miss event!

What is a Rain Painting? Jeni describes it here: "On a rainy afternoon, while working in the studio, I found myself taking the paintings outdoors, into and under the falling rain, then back inside to the studio, then out again. This new process allowed me and the paintings to engage with the intermittent rain showers, creating unique works through chance and timing, each with patterns and moments of color and light.

Each Rain Painting is truly one of a kind, created with layers of color, rain and collected recycled rainwater."

Studio Visit: Stepanka Horalkova

Posted by Julie Beckett on

We adore ceramics and feel the detailed porcelain work of Stepanka Horalkova is some of the finest around. During a recent visit to New York City we were able tour her studio and finally meet her in person.

Favorites in our shop are Stepanka's mugs and tumblers. She hand builds each vessel starting with extremely thin slabs of porcelain. She then embellishes each piece with textures, glazes and additions of color.

Stepanka also creates wall pieces using porcelain, made in almost a pillow-like style. She had several on display.

And more were hiding on the shelves.

Part of the fun of a studio tour is seeing new work. We loved the sneak peak of these new little planters. It was such a pleasure getting to meet Stepanka, and we thank her for letting us peek into her studio.  Look for more of her new work at Tilde this fall!
